What are we looking for?

We are open to any subject.

We are partial to well-done poems that play with form, imagery, and resonate with the poet’s original voice.

We love:
traditional forms that are twisted into something new
words that sail across the page and play with white space
words that are in conversation with images
work that starts on the page and links to music, spoken work

Surprise us with your creativity!

Guidelines:

  • 62-90 pages are preferred, but we will consider longer manuscripts.
  • In general, manuscripts should be in an easy-to-read font such as Times New Roman, Garamond, Georgia, or Calibri. No, Helvetica, it is difficult to read.
  • We understand that some work may have unusual formatting or color choices and will not conform to the requested formatting above. That is fine, but most manuscripts should be formatted as we recommend above.

Poets selected to be published by Purple Ink Press:

  • receive royalties,
  • coordination of an in-person book launch,
  • a profit-sharing plan if there is a Kickstarter campaign or additional projects, such as broadsides.
  • Published manuscripts will receive national and international distribution on all major book-selling platforms with publicity and promotion.

Poets published by PIP are expected to participate in the promotion of their books.

A reading fee of $12 (U.S.) is requested for each submission. Multiple submissions are accepted, provided each submission is accompanied by a separate reading fee.

Why a reading fee? What is a reading fee?

We are an independent, nonprofit literary press. Reading fees help to cover the cost of reviewing your manuscripts and publishing our books. We do offer a limited number of fee waivers. Please email purpleinkpress (at) gmail (dot) com with the subject “Fee Waiver.”

Please check that your document is complete and formatted as per our guidelines before uploading. We do not accept manuscripts via email. Manuscripts improperly formatted will not be considered.

We are not currently accepting translations.

We will consider manuscripts by more than one author.

The fee will be collected via Duosuma.

Feedback options are available on our submission page.
